If you have not had any dental work, sliding genioplasty or orthognathic surgery, you will be able to eat normally again fairly quickly. Due to the effects of general anesthesia, you may only feel nauseous for the first few hours. If you have intraoral stitches, you may prefer to eat softer or pureed foods at first. Our catering service provides easily digestible foods to help you with this.

After a sliding genioplasty you must be very careful not to put too much force on the lower jaw. by eating raw meat (steak) or biting into an apple. This should be avoided. The jaw is very weak in the chin area and it will take about 6 weeks for it to regain its original strength.
